In this interview I ask Steven Feld about his relationship with Jean Rouch and the influence he had on his work. We discuss the importance of technical competence and awareness in visual anthropology, and the technophobia of many academics. Finally, he reviews his recent audiovisual production, testifying the difficulties an anthropologist can have today in having his media work taken into the same consideration as his written production. I realised this interview when I was preparing my dissertation in cultural anthropology at the University of Milan-Bicocca, in 2007.
