Part of the work on the Sambla baan I developed in still images, realising a series of portraits of the family of musicians belonging to a socio-professional group in Karankasso, called in their language ka. This is an endogamous group, and is considered by other villagers as separate and somehow impure. Basically it is constituted by the baan players Konaté and the drum players Traoré. I wanted to portray the men with their instruments, but also wanted to include the women, who play a very important role during performances. Besides, the portraits were a much appreciated present for those who were so welcoming and collaborative with me.
